LabTech has a fully functional network monitoring system included. LabTech monitoring combined with failure response options make LabTech a very powerful monitoring tool. One can be alerted through one or many of LabTech alerts which include email, pager, telephone call, fax, print, append to a txt file, net send message, script to run, and create a support ticket. There are two types of Monitors in LabTech:

Active Network Monitors
Active monitors can alert based on values returned from machines or devices on the network. LabTech can monitor TCP, UDP, SNMP, Performance Counters, Services, File Size, Disk Space, Registry Key, or Process Running. LabTech has a unique approach to Network Monitoring. Every Remote Agent is a fully featured monitoring system. Every Remote Agent reports back to the central LabTech database, so alerting rules can be executed and the data is visible in the Control Center. This solution offers great flexibility, power, and drastically reduces network chatter.
There are a few ways to view status or monitors and alerts. The NOC Web screen offers an effective graphic summary of all of the sites and their status. It is available at the internal LabTech site/labtech/agents/default.aspx.

The Monitoring Agents screen is a way to quickly view all monitors in the system. The various columns can be sorted. If sorted by status, all failed monitors can be displayed at the top.

The system creates alerts if a monitor was set to alert when it fails. LabTech recommends these alerts only be created for outage situations. Alerts can be seen on the Alerts & Info Screen.

As can be seen on the monitor configuration screen there is a great flexibility delivered by adding syntax to the monitor.

Group Based Active Monitors
A common theme throughout LabTech is that automation and monitoring can be set up and maintained across groups. Monitors can be set up to run on all systems within the group and only run on systems that match with a search. This is a very powerful feature, so to understand this best, check out the quick demonstration file.

Internal Monitors
Internal monitors directly query the LabTech database for conditions, so alerts can be created when the conditions are met. Internal monitors can also be used to initiate automation (i.e. initiate defragmentation when drive is 10% fragmented.) Any data collected by LabTech out of the box or custom fields that have been added can be monitored. Internal monitors are created from the Monitor Agents screen.

You can right click to add or edit monitors. As you can see from the editing screen, there is a great amount of flexibility available in the Internal Monitors.

The LabTech Dashboard
The Overview tab of the dashboard gives you the best overview of all internal monitors running by location. When you click on the various parts in the grid, the list on the bottom right loads with the items which are sending out alarms. Custom sensors can be added to track any data point in the system to track items that are important to your business.

Group Based Internal Monitors
Similar to Active Network Monitors, Internal Monitors can be applied to groups. The difference with Internal Monitors is that you can apply monitors that were created on the monitor management screen. Internal Monitors can be added and they will apply to ALL computers in that group.
