One frustration about delivering support to a user base is that computers are constantly being used. LabTech solves this  by allowing you to work behind the scenes on problems without interrupting the user. You can perform virus cleanup, spyware cleanup, registry edits, file exploring, ipconfig or any custom command you would like to run. You will never have to communicate with a customer through typing a command in the command line again! As you can see by the picture below, LabTech automatically collects more information from the systems than you will ever need.

Remote File Explorer

Remote File Explorer gives you access to the files on the remote computer without a remote control session. This can be used to place a shortcut on the user’s desktop or to edit a configuration file. Imagine asking the user to close QuickBooks, then edit their file to add the correct path to the database. Now that is powerful.  The File Explorer is very fast and outperforms Explorer over VPN.

Remote Registry Editor

When troubleshooting a problem with the computer, you can remotely connect to any computer's registry. Most of the functions available in the standard registry editor are available. You can also use the registry editor to create a registry alias for scripting right from the key that you want to use the value from in the script. The registry editor caches all data and outperforms regedit across a VPN.  The Remote Registry editor is accessed through the Computer Screen.

Remote Command Line

Put the computer into fast talk mode and go to the command line tab on the computer screen and you can run any command line program on the remote computer and receive results.  Environment variables, LabIni, and LabReg syntax are automatically expanded.  Additionally, the command line functions can be run on a computer with the Remote Agent, but are actually executed on a computer without LabTech by putting the computer name before the command (i.e. \\computername net start LtService).

Click to Expand the Remote Command Line on the Computer Screen.

Remote Startup Editor

LabTech has the most advanced startup configuration, data collection, and cleanup functions. You can add startup item locations that LabTech will automatically scan on all computers with the LabTech agent. For example, you can scan items and plugins that run when Internet Explorer starts up. Out of the box, LabTech includes 51 startup locations.

Remote Script Execution

If you can imagine it, you can create a script to do it. Right through the tree view or the computer screen you can run any script in the system immediately or at a future, scheduled time. Scripts range from running some IP Diagnostics to disk defragmentation.

Script
Script Execution from the Computer Screen

Scripts range from running some IP Diagnostics to disk defragmentation. LabTech has over 150 commands and counting. Scripts can be created and edited from the Scripts folder in the tree. Very powerful troubleshooting and auto fix scripts can be created and executed.

Script Tree

From the tree, you can add a new script or edit an existing one.  Scripts have else-if logic built into them and can call other scripts, so their power is really unlimited.  To learn scripting, consult the scripting document or simply look over the scripts that come with LabTech.  The following script gathers product keys on desktops and servers.  Scripts can be Exported and shared on the forums.

Event Logs

All of the error logs from the systems are brought back to the central LabTech database. Double click on the error and a browser will open an online information page for the error. If an error requires work to be done, the system admin can right click on the error and create a support ticket.

Process Manager

The computer screen also lets you see the processes running on a computer. From this tab, you can end problem processes. You can also perform a lockdown that only allows the selected processes to run until the lockdown is canceled. This can be used to clean the system of a virus by unchecking the infected processes. LabTech will kill the process as soon as it starts and allows you to delete the file because it is no longer running.
