GUI and Web Based Solutions Deliver Greater Performance, Security, and Flexibility
The industry leans toward web based solutions to simplify deployment, but these seriously affect the end user's experience. Complicated web forms load slowly and handcuff a programmer's ability to create powerful tools. The Control Center is a compiled program, not a web interface, which drastically improves the end user's experience over a web interface. Additionally, web based applications rely on Internet Explorer for execution. Internet Explorer is frequently running plug-ins or is infected which can cause issues when running a web-based tool. Since LabTech is a stand-alone tool, it is not affected by issues with Internet Explorer. The LabTech web interface and Windows Mobile web interface are available for accessing information, ticket and time keeping, and other basic needs.
Agent and System Security bring Peace of Mind
The LabTech System has been designed with security in mind from the ground up. Every Remote Agent has a separate 16 character password that is never transmitted, all return data is compressed before it is encrypted with SSL. Agents only ever make outbound connections so firewalls do not have to be opened and agents never respond to direct commands. Remote Agents create Redirection Tunnels to do VNC, RDP and others that are Triple-Des Encrypted.
The Labtech server has been secured in such a way that even if an attacker compromised a remote agent's computer they would not be able to do anything to the LabTech server except update inventory for that computer. All access to the system from the Agent is restricted to Updating of inventory and returning command output for only the one computer. The ASP Components have been securely designed preventing SQL Injection attacks and the account used to access the database is severely limited.
The Control Center access the Database directly from your Network or across a VPN connection allowing you to determine the level of encryption necessary. All user account in LabTech have full permission sets that are configurable per Client and Computer. The Control Center and Web Control Center also can implement AuthAnvil and SSL for added Security.
Agent and Probe Technology Delivers Flexibility and Power
The Remote Agents use Agent Technology, which allows LabTech to be more powerful than solutions that deploy Agentless solutions. Agents connect without VPNs, firewall issues, or router configuration. Because the Agent is running on the computer it can perform tasks even while offline. It allows for direct management of applications running on the computer that is not possible in Agentless solutions. The Agent solution is more reliable operating behind firewalls and with travelling computers.
LabTech Agents work as monitors and as network probes. Since agents can be used to monitor anything on a network, LabTech offers many monitoring options and simplifies dependency rule creation. Network probes imbedded in the agent allow you to discover all the devices on the network. There is no need to manage two types of Agent installations because they are all included with the Agent. All Agents assist in the auto discovery process. The network probing also has many powerful Agent rollout tools included to simplify installation.
